Whakauae sends their congratulations to Stacey Ruru (Ngāti Haua, Ngāti Raukawa) who was awarded a Māori and Psychology Research Unit (MPRU) Postgraduate scholarship for her Ph.D. research at Waikato University.
Stacey's research will investigate the experiences of Māori women in leadership and mentoring before conceptualising a framework for future leaders. Her doctoral research is part of a larger Health Research Council of New Zealand (HRC) funded project called Rapua Te Ara Rangatira that sits within the Kia Puawai Ake Ngā Uri Whakatupu Programme Grant at Whakauae Research Services [HRC 21/716].
Stacey says "Despite growing research on Māori leadership, very few acknowledge Māori women's leadership and mentorship from their worldviews. Within my doctoral research, I want to privilege wāhine perspectives in areas that are primarily considered the domain of men to contribute to Māori women's leadership and mentorship."
