Amohia and Heather joined with friends, family members and colleagues to tautoko Professor Denise Wilson at her Inaugural Professorial Address at Auckland University of Technology (AUT) on the 31st May. Denise is from Ngāti Tahinga and the Director of Taupua Waiora the Centre for Māori Health Research at AUT. She is also a partner on one of our Whakauae research projects; Tapuhi Tū Toa, an intervention to reduce smoking rates in Māori nurses. During the lecture Denise spoke personally about her life journey including her achievements to date, acknowledging many who have supported this hīkoi. She also addressed a topic close to her heart; whānau violence with a kōrero entitled Mauri Oho Mauri Ora: A hīkoi of transformation, hope and healing for Māori whānau. We congratulate Denise on her remarkable achievements to date, wish her well in her new role and look forward to strengthening our working relationship between AUT and Whakauae.
