Second Te Pūtake - Whakauae Raro Occasional Paper released: Bro Ora-revitalising tāne Māori wellbeing through an awa lens

Today we release the second paper in Te Pūtake - Whakauae Raro, Whakauae's Occasional Paper Series - an online space to explore the aspirations, challenges and important new issues arising for Māori.

Bro Ora -revitalising tāne Māori wellbeing through an awa lens, by Tom Johnson, examines the issue of wellbeing for tāne Māori in the rohe of Whanganui. Building on current literature that examines colonisation as a driving factor in the genderisation of tāne Māori, as well as the existing wellbeing gaps for tāne Maori, the paper highlights existing knowledge gaps, and proposes a “Bro Ora” approach as a way in which to re-create tāne Māori wellbeing using Mātauranga Māori.

Whakauae's Occasional Paper Series was started in 2020 to provide a forum for original research, review, commentary and reflective essays on issues of relevance to whānau, hapū and Iwi Māori. Bro Ora - revitalising tāne Māori wellbeing through an awa lens can be found here.
