During December 2015, Whakauae facilitated Pae Tawhiti, a strategic planning day, with Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Hauiti.
The title Pae Tawhiti is derived from a whakatauki by Metekingi.
The purpose of Pae Tawhiti was to develop a five year strategic plan reflecting the aspirations of the Iwi. Fourteen Iwi members, including kaumātua, participated in Pae Tawhiti. They were especially blessed with the presence of kuia, Nanny Bo Metekingi - Rangi. Session facilitator Ngareta Patea used the visual planning tool, Planning Alternative Tomorrow's with Hope (PATH) to record whānau reflections on progress to date and on a way forward. The day proved productive providing opportunities for whānau to think innovatively and subsequently identify key short-term and long-term goals. Some of the kōrero included considering:
